How many have you read?
Baby got books has a handy spreadsheet that allows you to chart your progress on 1001 books to read before you die. I scored an embarassingly low 43. I could complain that CanLit wasn't properly represented or that the list is skewed to favour English majors, but the truth is that I need to get reading!
The good news is that our new couch arrived over the weekend so I now have a comfortable place to stretch out and improve my dismal score. Check out the right corner where you can see the my first sewing project since making a pencil case in grade nine home economics.

I didn't fare much better as I got a 46. Although it might be 48 because I know that I read the Blind Assasin and Possessing the secret of Joy but I can't remember them. Do those count? And what about books that I haven't read because I saw the movie? And what about books I absolutely refuse to read ie American Psycho?
ps nice couch and cushion, does this mean that chaise lounge has been replaced? Say it ain't so..
67! I'm shocked. but i went thru a classics phase, and maugham definitely helped.
btw, is that my chaise sandeep is referring to? you can sell it but you have to send me a christmas gift...honey and puppy chow. :)
I'm with you that there are some books I refuse to read.
Chaise is still around but will be replaced shortly when a new armchair arrives (exciting posts to come!)
the proceeds from the sale of the chaise will be making their way to hali.
Congratulations Alyssa & Andrew. I like the colour,I find it agreeable and serene. The cushion is a wonderful accent. My compliments to the designer.

45. That is not good at all. Does it count if you can recite the musical (Les Mis) or have seen the movie (too many to count). And I have an English degree. I maintain that I may have missed a few while perusing the list - and I reserve the right to recount.
28... I really thought I'd only be in the teens... and for the record American Psycho is an awesome book, although the cringe factor is huge.

30 here, though more than a couple had movie tie-in covers. I agree with Joe's review of American Psycho - a good read, but the details of the rat scene are gruesome.
any game to check-in one year from now and report on where they are at with the list?
I'd like to think I'll have a better score but I've already started two books since this post and neither are on the list.
I'd be up for that but I think we should amend the list to include more books we like and get rid of some of those we don't like the poisonwood bible, clockwork orange, english patient (I tried reading it, I really did - He has an entire chapter about wind!), all of the pre 1700's stuff. These are books I should read- Puleeze!
ps Alyssa is a wonderful person and nobody posts on the blog like she does. Go Alyssa!
I'd be game, but not with any expectation to be in the top tier with you true reader-types. In fact, if the game started as of Alyssa's post (with the unamended list), I'm at +1. Finished White Teeth (Smith) on the busride in this morning.
I'm in. and I'm not opposed to amending the list (as Alyssa and I have similar taste). I miss our book club. :(
I've just got back from 5 weeks of glorious holiday, so am a bit late to the game as I'm just catching up on all things Andrew and Alyssa...
I got 54 - I thought about using a half point if a) you've seen the movie or b) you started it and had to stop (i.e., ulysses) - but I didn't. But that might be a good middle ground...
Interestingly enough, 2 of the books I'd read while on holiday (Disgrace and the Cloud Atlas). Also read Wayne Johnson's The Colony of Unrequited Dreams, which I'd highly recommend, particularly if you're an east coater or an east coaster wannabe (which I think includes most of us on this blog....)
